YouTube Speed Controller ("we", "our", or "the extension") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains our practices regarding data collection and usage for both the free and premium versions of the extension.

Data Collection – Free Version

The free version does not collect any personal data. It:

  • Does not collect or store any personal information
  • Does not track your browsing history or video watching habits
  • Does not transmit any data to external servers
  • Operates entirely locally within your browser

Data Collection – Premium Version

If you purchase and activate a Premium license, the extension communicates with Polar.sh, our payment and license management provider, to validate your license. During activation and periodic re-validation, the following information is transmitted:

  • Your license key
  • Your operating system platform (e.g., "Win32", "MacIntel")
  • The extension version number
  • A timestamp of when the license was activated

This data is used solely for license validation and is subject to Polar.sh's Privacy Policy. We never collect or transmit your browsing history, video watching habits, or any other personal data.

Local Storage

The extension uses your browser's local storage (chrome.storage) to save:

  • Your preferred playback speed settings (synced across devices if signed into Chrome)
  • Your license information (Premium users only, stored locally on each device)

Your settings are stored using chrome.storage.sync, which may sync across your Chrome browsers if you are signed in. License data is stored in chrome.storage.local and remains on the specific device where the license was activated.

Third-Party Services

This extension does not integrate with any analytics, advertising, or tracking services.

The only third-party service used is Polar.sh for Premium license management. Polar.sh is a privacy-focused payment platform, and communication with their servers only occurs when you activate or validate a Premium license.

Permissions Explained

The extension requests the following browser permissions:

  • Host permissions for youtube.com: Required to inject the speed controller into YouTube video pages
  • Storage: Required to save your settings and license information locally
  • Host permissions for api.polar.sh: Required only for Premium license validation

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
